Dear Horrors and Parents,
On Sunday 14th January 2018, we will be holding a special hash on St. John’s Island, one of the Southern Islands off the coast of Singapore.
Instead of the usual afternoon start, this hash will be held in the morning at 10am. You can choose to take an early boat out, or join us at the camp on the island the night before on Saturday 13th January. If you plan to come for the day, you can take the 9am ferry from Marina South Pier ($18 adult, $12 child, return) which takes about 20-30mins, and still have plenty of time afterwards to make a day of it, returning on the 3:50pm or 5:50pm ferry.
Individual camping is not permitted on the island, and as per last year we have booked the large dormitory/group camp and associated facilities. For those who prefer, you can bring a tent and pitch it in the group camp grounds.
The dormitory has 110 beds (up/down bunks) and natural ventilation (i.e open windows and fans). Mattresses, sheets, pillows and pillowcases are all provided. The associated mess block has cooking and dining equipment (i.e. chairs, tables, gas hobs, pans, plates, cutlery etc) as well as a fridge. There are flush toilets and running (cold) showers. Everyone please bring your own drinking water, at least 2litres per head, which can be topped up with water boiled from the tap. Kids will find it fun to bring a torch. We’ll have a bonfire and some fun activities. There’ll be no drinks van, so BYO beer/wine/soft drinks (there is a fridge and we’ll have ice).
The hash is as usual included for members who have paid quarterly dues, and 20 SGD for guests Horrors. For the overnight camping, the cost is set at 20SGD per head (so a family of 4 will cost 80SGD). This includes the sleeping facility and 3 meals (dinner, breakfast, lunch). Places are limited to 110, and initially only to members, so register early to ensure you don’t miss out. If you will be tenting and don’t need a dorm bed, please let us know so that we can allow more people to join.
How to register / Payment details
You can register for this event during Hash registration with our Hash Cash Camilla or by simply emailing HashCash at firstname.lastname@example.org. Payment can be via electronic transfer to Mrs Camilla Elizabeth Myers, HSBC Bank, Collyer Quay Branch- Account number 152449559001 or via mobile payment to 81237384. Please indicate your family name on the transfer. Or you can pay cash at the next run on the 3rd December. Please note that the registration is only final once fees are paid!
As is usual when camping, we will need everyone to pitch in with cooking, washing up, cleaning up before departure etc. On top of that, we are looking for volunteers to help out with different jobs, like preparing meals, setting the hash, and many other jobs that we will list nearer the time. Please let us know if you are available to help, either by helping on the day, or by joining our special “StJohns committee”!
We hope to see many of you on the island.
